Travel to Kentucky using your taste buds. The Mint Julep is classic cocktail— take a sip and start dreaming!
It may come as a surprise, but the unofficial drink of the South – the Mint Julep – got its start as a medicinal concoction used to settle the stomach. It gained popularity in the American South in the late 1700s due to its elite nature. The Mint Julep was (and still is) served with crushed ice and in a silver or pewter cup, and back then, not everyone had access to those two items. As time went on, the cocktail’s popularity never died, and the Mint Julep became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby in 1938 where nearly 120,000 Mint Juleps have been sold every year since.
Take a sip and start dreaming about Kentucky, the home of southern charm and hospitality, bourbon, and the world-famous Kentucky Derby. And, when the time is right, we’re here to help you plan your perfect trip down south!
